Reading

At Milford Primary School, we follow the letters and sounds phonics programme which is supported by our Big Cat phonics reading scheme.

Reading Open Afternoon

On January 27th we held a reading open afternoon for parents and carers.

Mrs Kinsella gave a presentation in the hall to outline our approach to reading in KS2 and how parents can help their children become successful readers. Mrs Whitehall spoke to Key stage 1 parents about reading and phonics in Amber and Kinder class.

The parents then visited our reading cafes where they had an opportunity to share a variety of different books with their children.

The 100 Book Challenge smiley

Welcome to our 100 Book Challenge!  As part of our initiative to inspire children to read for pleasure, whilst encouraging them to read books which are a suitable challenge, we have given all the children a list of 100 books for them to read. The lists were created by Ashley Booth, a teacher from St Silas C of E school in Liverpool. Each term we will have a celebration assembly where children will receive awards for their reading efforts and have a chance to share which has been their favourite book.
